The Onggi of Invocation is a sculpture by Korean-American artist Jane Kang, standing 21 ½ inches tall and 13 ½ inches wide. Crafted from traditional Korean onggi earthenware clay, the piece draws on centuries-old techniques once used for fermenting kimchi and soy sauce, reimagined here as a work of contemporary ritual and cultural storytelling. Its rounded body and richly textured surface honor the enduring symbolism of the onggi as an archivist of survival, transformation, and intergenerational ties. Deliberate, organic shaping invites both touch and contemplation, making the piece as much a sculptural statement as a functional form.
